1. Printing Applications
Linered labels are typically used to print individual or batches of labels. Once printed the single label or batch of labels are removed from the printer, the backing liner is then removed and the label is placed on the product, container or parcel.
Linerless labels can be printed individually or in batches. When a single label is printed, the label is cut at the required length and is presented to the user to be removed and applied immediately to the product, container or parcel. When printing a batch of labels (i.e. 10 labels), the first label is printed, cut and presented to the user to be removed. When the user removes the first label, the second label is printed, cut and presented to the user. This process continues until the batch is completed. This process is commonly known as Presenter mode, or Peel and Present.
2. Waste Management
Linered labels require users to collect and dispose of backing liner in separate waste bins in order for it to be disposed of by approved waste management service providers because the backing liner is not yet suitable for recycling. Linerless labels do not include a liner and remove all waste management complications and associated costs.
3. Waste Disposal
Linered label backing liner must be disposed of by approved waste management services providers. Typically backing liner is incinerated at around £200 per tonne. Linerless labels do not include any liner and remove all waste disposal complications and associated costs.
4. Carbon Emissions
Linered labels increase overall carbon emissions by extra manufacturing, distribution and manual labour management of labels, backing liner, packaging, waste collection materials, waste disposal services.
Linerless label manufacturing process are now 100% carbon neutral, and also remove all the extra emissions resulting from the use of linered labels.

Desktop Printers
Desktop label printers require a silicon platen roller and a media cutter to support linerless label media.
If you already have a desktop printer it may be suitable to upgrade it to support linerless label media, some printers can not be upgraded and you would need to purchase an different model.
The cutter allows you to simplify the media management by cutting labels to the length you need, reducing the number of unique labels sizes you have to keep in stock.
Now your users will simply print and apply the exact label length applications without any changes to label stock between print jobs, and will not spend any time managing and disposing backing waste.
